Family-owned and deeply rooted in the community, Bunyip Optical has been a trusted name in local eye care for over a decade. Founded by experienced optometrist Sonia Romm, the practice began its journey within the Bunyip community medical centre on A’Beckett Road. Today, it has expanded into larger premises next to Bunyip IGA, symbolising its growth and commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare for regional Victoria.
Sonia, who has spent years practicing optometry in regional areas, recognised early on the need for quality healthcare options closer to home. With a passion for building meaningful, long-term relationships with her patients, she has made Bunyip Optical a trusted source of eye care in the area, valuing not just the science of her work but the personal connection to her clients.
The story of Bunyip Optical is now also a story of family collaboration. Sonia’s daughter, Dr. Rachel Yanovsky, is an osteopath and founder of Focus on Osteopathy, located within the same practice. Rachel’s healthcare journey began right at the heart of Bunyip Optical. While completing her studies, Rachel worked as a receptionist and dispenser, growing alongside the family business. In 2022, she returned to Bunyip to open her own osteopathic clinic, bringing an added layer of healthcare expertise to the practice.
By combining their skills, Sonia and Rachel offer patients a holistic approach to healthcare, blending eye care and osteopathy. They view health as a multifaceted journey, and their collaboration gives residents a broader spectrum of care within a familiar, family-owned practice.
The practice wouldn’t be the same without its dedicated support team, including Sonia’s husband, Simon, along with Kylie and Sarah. This talented trio manages bookings, assists clients in selecting frames, and keeps the operations running smoothly, helping to create a welcoming, organised atmosphere for both Sonia and Rachel’s patients.
Together, this dynamic mother-daughter duo and their team provide a vital healthcare service for Bunyip and surrounding areas, enhancing the well-being of their community with both expertise and a heartfelt commitment to quality care.

What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic health care option using hands-on therapy to treat a wide range of conditions.
Osteopaths work with the muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments using a combination of soft tissue massage, joint articulation, manipulation techniques, at home rehabilitation programmes and may use alternative therapies including dry needling.
Treatment aims to help patients better understand their presenting condition, improve function and decrease pain. Each consult is always tailored to the individual in the room for better long term health.
Patients covered by TAC, Workcover, DVA and EPC are welcome.
